Weekly check-in 8/9
As the new Volunteer Coordinator for Visions6, I have been quite busy. When I first came on board, I immediately noticed the our schedule for accruing volunteers as they did for V5 is completely behind. So, I have been playing catch-up. I have been a bit confused with what exactly I am supposed to do and what is not allowed and what is allowed. Zoë has been extremely helpful and I am quickly learning the in's and out's of it all. I have been in contact with several people trying to get an action plan and schedule to get volunteers for the event. The first thing I did was of course read the manual to see how it has been done in the past. I also spoke to last years volunteer coordinator Ashley Marshall for advice. The first step, was to have all the directors fill out their specific volunteer needs for the day of the event. I wanted to get this done quickly so I could begin to prepare. I plan on having one more day they can finalize their volunteer needs just in case. I have also been emailing Sandra, Katie and Kebba about how to go about getting ACE members to volunteer. I am told that ACE members have previously provided Visions with the majority of volunteers. I am pleased that Kebba and I have formulated a plan to get volunteers this year as well. Requests have been put in for Flyers and 4-ups to post around campus. I wish I had requested these to be done at an earlier date, however, as it is too late now, I will make it work. Jack has been very flexible with my requests for social media posts which is very helpful. He will be posting information about volunteering on social media once a week. I am not sure if this is too much or too little but I think it will be perfect! A calendar has been made in which I have made a schedule for each piece of the puzzle to be completed. This schedule of course can be revised, but it is a good go to for not only me, but also the class. Tomorrow I present in class about what I have done so far and what I plan to do. I have worked very hard and I hope it shows in my presentation (I get a bit frazzled when it comes to public speaking). Tomorrow I also present at an FST 205 class. Hopefully I can get some film students excited to volunteer. As the weeks go by, I will be keeping up with my emails and updating the database and preparing for the volunteer sign up website launch. All of this is a bit overwhelming but I am learning as I go and I am excited for this opportunity. Wish me luck! Also, over spring break I visited the Dew Drop Inn. At first my mother was confused why we needed to go there, but after I explained she was intrigued! We got a ton of pictures and I am glad I got to see it in the flesh!
